Review on MSI G271CQP FreeSync Displayport 2560X1440, 165Hz, HDR, Curved Monitor with Tilt Adjustment - Optix G271CQP by Steven Nelson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice curved VA panel for gaming but no HDR certification.

PROS: Things I like. + This is a beautiful monitor. The 1000R curved screen reduces eye strain after a long day at work. I stare at a screen 8 hours a day at work so I need a curved monitor that doesn't add to my fatigue so this monitor helps when I want to relax while gaming. + It has a wide color gamut and high pixel density that produce good contrast and nice graphics that you usually see on an IPS panel and not a VA panel like this one. It has the best color display compared to other similar models like the 27-inch Acer 1000r curved monitor. + Freesync works seamlessly with my RTX 3080, so no screen tearing. HDR Ready (keyword "Ready") means it meets the minimum requirements to support High Dynamic Range (HDR), but hasn't been certified to do so (probably due to certification costs). For us, that means HDR can be turned on for specific apps and games. For example, I can enable HDR in the graphics settings of Battlefield 1 released in 2016 but not in newer games like Battlefield 2042 and cannot enable HDR in the window display settings. however, wouldn't buy it at regular price if HDR is your requirement. - NO monitor joystick. This screen doesn't have a monitor joystick, so it's difficult to adjust settings using just the buttons below the screen. At this price I would at least expect it.- IT IS NOT POSSIBLE to manually activate the 165 Hz mode on the monitor. For some reason, and it may be the specific device I'm getting, I couldn't enable 165Hz in the monitor settings. Clicking on settings just gave me the place to turn it on for some weird reason. I had to download the MSI display app just to enable 165Hz, but sometimes it reverted to 60Hz when I did. Screen. If you don't want a curved screen, the next best monitor I would recommend for a 27-inch HDR-capable screen would be the LG 27GP850-B.

Pros
  • Great high quality monitor for the games I play and just amazing
Cons
  • In the product description for cube 165 Hz and solo 144 Hz
