Update: Motorized base no longer rotates. Now the stars no longer rotate in space. It's a shame because I really liked it. In fact, I don't have a child. I ordered this for me and my daughter because we are fun people who like fun lighting. We love this light for singing karaoke in the living room, DJing in the living room, and quirky lighting for the mood of sitting in a beanbag and listening to hip-hop lo-fi. There is a timer function but I only used it once. There's a frosted dome you can use on top if you just need a colorful night light without a projector. The projector can rotate the stars around the wall, or you can make it stationary. There are different colors of light. One of my favorites is the blue-green lighting, which creates a psychedelic atmosphere. Another light show I like is when the light quickly shimmers in all colors because it goes perfectly with the song Sakura Drops by Hikaru Utada. The only thing I don't like is that the packaging says that you can use it to teach your child "astronomy". This is not an accurate map of the stars, so don't expect kids to use it to learn the constellations. But it's a very nice and fun mood or party light, and with the frosted dome it's a good night light. We have a lot of fun with him.
