This is a larger than average cat shovel, although I figure you can use it to pick dirt out of the sand or whatever, of course why not. If you have one or more large cat boxes, this is a good choice. The filtering isn't so fine that it takes forever to sift through the junk, but it's not so broad that you lose a lot of other material either. No, unless you're looking for a cheap litter that doesn't clump well. Don't use dusty litters that are high in cement, though - your cats shouldn't breathe cement and clay dust every day, and neither should you. But anyway. Good size, good shielding, good durability. Not so flexible that it accidentally turns into a catapult, but strong enough to scratch it.
