Review on SENNHEISER SET840 - TV RF Stereo Assistive Listening Headphones System for TV Optimization by Tony Bennett

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Early disappointment - later added update

I bought this set in April 2014 and have been happy with it for about 18 months; suddenly the receiver went off. I contacted Revain and sent the receiver back to the manufacturer - a few weeks later it came back either replaced or refurbished (no explanation or communication accompanied the return) and was working fine again until 2016 - just over a year after the repair/ Substitute. . Then, for unknown reasons, the receiver switched itself off again. It was too expensive to even replace the receiver every year or two. Without it, television is useless, my hearing is too bad. I have also used it to watch Netflix DVDs with my husband, now I leave it to him to my dismay and disappointment. UPDATE January 2020; My receiver failed again in early 2017 and this time Sennheiser sent a new replacement which worked great for 3 years. It went out this week - I followed the manufacturer's advice to reset the electronics and it didn't work; The sender seems fine, but the receiver is dead - and the warranty is no longer on it. Given the fixed cost of the repair ($140 or $190 for urgent repairs) I'll probably just replace. It helped a lot (without it my husband wears earplugs when I watch TV).

Pros
  • Wireless RF system with transmitter and receiver (headphones) provides mobility up to 100 feet; even transmits through walls
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
