Incredibly frustrating, unreliable, cheap

years. The problems started with the setup. You can't just set them up through the Alexa app or Google Home. Ok, I'll install the Wyze app to connect the bulbs. The app requires you to create an account, fine, but then you also need to give the app permission to *all files, photos, and content on your phone*. I have no idea why Wyze needs access to everything on my phone just to turn on a few lightbulbs. I snorted and whimpered at the progress, but by now I'd spent the money on Amazon, unpacked the box, installed the bulbs in the light - I was really committed. After several denials and getting the app kicked out, I finally gave in and let this random lightbulb app access everything on my phone. The app kept crashing when trying to connect to a Wi-Fi network with a lightbulb, it took about 5 attempts for each attempt. When they finally showed up, only one of them was shared with Google Home (my main controller) and had to be reinstalled for them both to show up. And finally, after this was hooked up, the lights themselves became very unreliable and slow. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 MINUTES from the moment I say "off" or "on" for the light to come on. It doesn't matter whether I use the Wyze app directly or via Google Home. Sometimes they just don't respond. Or they randomly turn on after I turn them off. After 48 hours with them I'm sending them back and deleting the creepy app. Literally the worst tech experience I've had in years. I am also very tech savvy. I'm the person that all my family members call when their stuff isn't working. And those Wyze bulbs are BAD.

Pros
  • No hub required. Wyze Bulb connects directly to your 2.4GHz WiFi network (does not support 5GHz WiFi) and the free Wyze app for quick and easy setup.
Cons
  • Uncertain
