Sharpens fairly well. But they are difficult to keep. I went with them because they were a bit cheaper. I didn't even notice how narrow they are and the black holders are too wide on the sides. As your stone gets used and worn, the sides will wear down or they will be in a hole. I think time will tell. I will probably buy another style. Like a square diamond
