My husband and I bought this camera for our son's 7th birthday. We weren't sure how long the camera would outlive our son as he is very famous for disassembling and disassembling things in his spare time. After a year of daily use and watching some of his videos with a lot of abuse, not only does the camera still work like new, it has no scratches or chips. I like that it's just a camera and not a mini tablet with internet access or open web functions. There is an app that parents can install on their phones. Get camera photos and even share camera photos which is very nice. You can also add mp3 to the device so they can listen to their favorite music, there is a headphone jack so they can listen quietly. The camera also has some mini-games, which is great for long car rides. I highly recommend this camera. If mine hasn't already destroyed it, I imagine it would be quite difficult for any child to do so. It was a great gift and helped him climb the corporate ladder as a grown big kid.
