Doesn't last ten days

I have to admit it helps keep my Dexcom in place. But even in combination with an overpatch from Dexcom, that doesn't even last ten days. I tried using it without the patch provided by Dexcom but it falls off even faster. It usually takes me about seven days before I have to put a second or even third plaster over it. If you are attempting to replace the entire patch, you must be aware that you are most likely about to remove the Dexcom sensor and should replace it as well. It's best to just install an additional patch. Advantages. The patch, combined with the proprietary patch, really extends the time without using a ton of surgical tape. You can always add additional patches to get past the ten day window. Glue will certainly bring significant savings by maintaining proper adhesion to the sensor. Sensors are quite expensive with or without insurance. CONS You can say goodbye to long showers, especially with hot water. I've found the hard way that a long, hot shower reduces stickiness by fifty percent or more. You should be in a quiet, comfortable position (usually partially reclined). When you remove the protective film, the patch also likes to move, especially when there is real airflow like fans. Once this happens, the patch will most likely stick together and become unusable. You must try again with a different patch or face the possibility that the patch will fail and remove the newly installed sensor. A little trial and error goes a long way. I suggest always having a second pack available. Regardless of what I found, I would have to use at least two patches for the life of the sensor. This is again due to the fact that the plaster begins to peel off at the edges from the seventh day and depending on the activity as early as the fourth day. . After removing the expired sensor and patch(es), I wipe the area twice with alcohol wipes and then take this long, luxurious shower before applying the new sensor/patch(s). Although it seems that there are more disadvantages, remember that a big plus is that these patches will save you a lot of money right away, even if you have to use two or three during the lifetime of a sensor. Losing a sensor can mean financial insecurity for many people with diabetes who are spending money on expensive treatments. Without the appearance and creation of a better updated version, I would still HIGHLY recommend it to all patients with a permanent glucometer.
