For a 35mm DSLR body and a pro lens (heavy and rarely short) even the great 50mm 1.8 is too short unless you photograph books. We bought it to shoot a lot of print work on design and packaging. And it's too close to the product to give us enough information. Need at least another 12-18 inches for 70mm lenses or smaller. Longer ones can be shot with small books, coins, etc. Not universal. We're building one. For the same price, you can use pre-drilled metal tubing and c-channel for robotics and build everything you need for the same price or less. Buy a bracket that matches the width of the pipe you are using.
