Review on Flashlight BlackLight Blacklight Ultraviolet Detector by Pamela Whitworth

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Overly detailed review for those looking for info

I'm not the type to normally give 5 stars but this flashlight really helped me see ALL the stains on my carpet. I have a small dog and we got him about 2 years ago, he has definitely had a lot of accidents in my bedroom. As you can see from the embarrassing photos and videos, she's been pissing all over the room for the past several years. We do our best to remove stains promptly to avoid visible stains that you may also see. I kept telling my significant other that the room still smelled like urine, especially when the room got warm. We have spotted visible stains many times and I can still smell urine. I have a strong sense of smell and he honestly didn't believe me when I told him it was still there. Now we're on the same page, thank goodness for this flashlight! I have researched many different UV lamps sold on Amazon specifically for this task. Many pet owners have checked others and complained that they don't work. I was skeptical to order it simply because so many reviews mix all the different brands. I chose this flashlight because it has a wider range of light visibility. We can see lightwaves around 400-750nm with the naked eye, a flashlight makes lower lightwaves (UV below 400nm) visible to us. This particular flashlight has multiple types of UV bulbs so when used correctly (in the dark) you can see a wider range of UV colors compared to other UV bulbs so I felt it would be more efficient. When I received the flashlight for the first time today, I tried it out right away. Didn't see most of the spots so I tried again at night and WOW! I have to say that's true, if the stain is wet, damp or freshly cooked it won't glow. I've researched why, and it's because the collected/dried urine leaves behind salt and crystals, and UV light "glows" in the dark. When it's warm/humid, salt absorbs moisture from the air and releases gases familiar to most of us. do not dry or leave salt crystals that produce an odor. If you don't have a vacuum, I recommend using a towel and covering the stain with a weight to absorb as much urine as possible. Never scrub the carpet with a brush as this will damage the fibers of the carpet. You must strain the stain to try to lift the liquid from the carpet underlay underneath. After absorbing as much moisture as possible, place another dry towel over the cleaned/slightly damp area and press down with something heavy for a while. This will help moisture move up the fibers of the rug from the backing underneath to ensure everything underneath is dry. Note that if you leave the carpet wet, the planks can rot UNDER the carpet. If your carpet is becoming crusty or appears to have a film on it, this is usually because the shampoo/carpet cleaner has not completely washed out of the fibers. My carpets look clean and spotless, so my significant other was overthinking it when I complained about the smell. I'll post an update when I find a cleaner that actually does the job.
