update: DO NOT buy this fan, it is dangerous and also cheap. The fan literally fell apart during operation last night. The thin plastic cover (to protect from the fan blade) falls apart at the slightest touch, and tonight the fan blade came off, tore off the front cover and scattered parts - someone could get hurt. Thank goodness I used plastic zip ties to keep the guards in front of the unit otherwise someone would likely get hurt. I couldn't imagine how loose the fan blade nut was, they are designed to stay tight, but I found that a cheap plastic nut had come loose, which allowed the blade to come loose during operation. I will be filing a consumer protection complaint regarding this item. --- I bought this fan as it seems reasonable for the price and I have an old Lasko (metal) that I think can survive the apocalypse. The fan is moderately loud, but not overly so. The old Lasko I own is like owning a personal hurricane - complete with noise. This new fan isn't quiet, but it's not too loud either, so I can turn it on and watch TV at a low volume. I really enjoy white noise while sleeping. The air vent is great, much more so than the old Galaxy it replaced. There are no complaints about its ability to move air. I don't have much experience with this fan, so I'll rate its durability as average. I will update the information when I have the fan longer. I encountered a very dangerous bug. When I got too close to the fan, my t-shirt flew onto the fan's protective cover and opened the front, leaving my hand inches from the exposed blades. . I turned off the fan, thinking I must have assembled it incorrectly, and put the front section back in place. I carefully checked that it was properly attached, then used my t-shirt to put the protective cover back on and remove the front. Made of very pliable and thin plastic, the guard flexes slightly, causing it to detach from the latches that are supposed to hold it. I've since added clincher tires to the protection to keep it from falling apart and hurting anyone. In the past, all the large fans I've used have had either metal covers or heavier plastic covers. I've never seen a fan break like this before.
