I'm a HUGE supporter of OXO products. I easily have over 20 of their products all over my house. But this one just doesn't do it for me. OXO is about building something smart that solves a problem that some other products can't. I tried this dish with butter and it's nothing special like any other dish. In fact, the fact that it doesn't have US and European stick size markings like its OXO plastic sibling is even more disappointing. The metal edges are quite sharp and rough, and the plastic lid doesn't seal odors very well. I would say that the OXO plastic plate is a decent option compared to the steel plate. If you're looking for a dressier utensil than plastic, look for something else that has size markings and is more airtight. :: UPDATE :: I would like to confirm my initial review with some additional details. I originally said that the plastic version of the OXO lubricator is slightly better, but I feel that when it comes to storing oil, the OXO just doesn't quite fit and totally failed in that category. The whole point of the butter dish is that the oil retains its fresh smell and taste for as long as possible. So far the only product I've tried that I feel achieves this goal is a progressive plastic oiler. It has impeccably tight seals that are truly locked. In fact, it's so tight that my only complaint is that it can be difficult to open, especially when you're low on cooking oil on your hands. But for me it's still the lesser evil and I think I could always change it with a simple catch mechanism if I really wanted to. In addition, it has American and European measurement standards with silicone markings, so they don't wear out like painted ones! And for $6 at the time of this review, it's not a problem. I'd love to see OXO create their own version of this with a simpler open design, and then maybe I could promote their product in that space. And don't even get me started on all those porcelain sealed oilers with bamboo lids. What an absolute scam! I bought one and the "seals" in the lid were so weak I was sure it was defective so I bought another and it was even worse. One of the worst in quality and design. And they claim they have so much oil, but that's only when it's soft and smeared inside. If you want to hold sticks you could fit 2 if you cut them. Gah, please stay away from them!
