Review on πŸ”ͺ SKIL 5280-01: The Ultimate 7-1/4 Inch Circular Saw with Laser Guide - Get Precision and Power! by Nathan Jones

Great, but the blade guide is a bit off. (Updated)

Update below. This is a 13 amp option, $40. Bought to lay a parquet floor myself. I realized this was a 24 tooth sanding blade that was better suited for roughly cutting large pieces like plywood or 2x4s, so I supplemented this purchase with a 60 tooth Diablo blade. The saw itself is strong enough, I didn't use a 24 ton blade but it had no problem using a 60 ton blade to cut through hardened bamboo. NEGATIVES: The blade guide notch doesn't quite match the blade. The blade is a few mm further to the right than the guide would suggest. Not a big problem once I figure it out, I just have to do this compensation. PROS: Power as mentioned (torque is very noticeable when raising the blade), size, easy to handle with right or left hand, fairly compact when fully lowered, can increase depth of cut to 0 to allow for different depths of cut ( I use this for clearance, I cut boards raised 1x4 on my garage floor.) Has a 45Β° side bevel setting which I didn't use when sawing, it's a nice feature. Update: I used a 24 ton disc to disassemble my porch, it's holding up pretty well after probably 100+ cuts in 5/4x6 and 2x4. Also, one can consider wrapping the handle, the connection between the plastic shells rubs the hand a bit between the thumb and forefinger during prolonged use.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Some little things
