Review on Stinger SSCB300 300A Circuit Breaker by Johnathan Sherman

No Copper Bar, Small Contacts, Poor Construction - Just Buy Optifuse Switches!

I bought this switch because I needed 300 amps. I knew I was going to take it apart because E9-style breakers are pretty often good or very bad. Stinger jackhammers are very bad.1. There is no copper bus on the back of the bimetallic element.2. Breaks into pieces in your hand!3. small contacts. More like 150-200 amp contacts.4. Not waterproof. If you're looking for a great hydraulic breaker, choose Optifuse products and avoid the Stinger. Optifuse undervalues all of its products. The contacts are enlarged and have a large copper bus on a bimetallic element. Even Chinese E9 breakers are better than Stingers! The photo order is a little messed up.1. The first photo shows a bimetallic Stinger element. Make sure there is no copper bus on it. This part heats up with the flow and changes its shape. Further heating and it separates the contacts. A good switch depends on copper and a lighter bimetallic element for most of the current path.2. In the second photo, the contacts of the Optifuse 200A circuit breaker. It's probably hard to say, but even though this breaker is rated for 200 amps, the contacts are about 10-15% larger than the Stinger's 300 amp breaker.3. The third photo shows the contacts inside the Stinger switch. They're pretty small for 300 amps so won't last long.4. The 4th and 5th photos show how the stinger breaker broke when I pulled the rivets out. Nothing was forced. It fell apart by itself! 5. The last picture clearly shows the large Optifuse copper element on the back of the bimetallic element. This is a much better jackhammer than a Chinese jackhammer or a much worse Stinger jackhammer. As you can see the Optifuse breaker didn't fall apart when I took it apart. You can find 200 amp Optifuse circuit breakers at Revain, but not the 300 amp version. To do this, go to Digikey. After seeing how crappy the stinger switch was, I bought 2 300 amp Optifuse switches and returned the one remaining stinger!
