Review on πŸšͺ MAGZO Magnetic Screen Door 32x80 - Reinforced Fiberglass - Heavy Duty Mesh - Grey by Frank Rivera

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Magzo vs Sentry best build materials

I needed two screens and based on the reviews I couldn't decide between Sentry and Magzo so I bought one of each. I've just installed them so can't give a durability rating, but I do have some buying and installation suggestions and some comparisons. they are not the same size. Out of the box, the two screens look like they could have been made in the same factory, and they probably were, but with different specs. The screen material is identical, as are the magnets along the lid. However, the external dimensions of the Sentry are 79 x 37 inches, while the Magzo actually measures 36 x 80 inches as advertised. The only other difference I noticed between the two was that the Sentry had a few weights on the bottom edge, which seems to reduce the chance of wind exposure. The keys are the same, although the Sentry comes in a nice plastic box, while the Magzo comes in a cardboard box. Overall, the Sentry folks put more effort into the packaging than Magzo. INSTALLATION These two brands give different installation instructions. Sentry recommends sticking the Velcro to the door frame and then attaching the screen to it. Magzo recommends applying the tape to the screen and then peeling off the backing to reveal the sticky part during installation. I used the Magzo method because it was easier for one person to install. In hindsight, I'd suggest using Magzo's approach for another reason, at least in a setup where the screen doesn't have extra width material. If you have a screen that isn't excessively wide, you should be able to see yourself glued while the screen learns. In my case I changed where I placed the tape to make the screen flat. If I had applied the tape first I would have placed it somewhere else and the width of the material would have been a few inches wider. lots of magnets on the clasp and vervro around the perimeter. A few months ago I bought from a 'local' dealer - OSH - on the theory that Revain was taking over the world, destroying local businesses etc. The OSH screens were very easy to install as the screen was suspended from a spring tension rod. and only had a couple of velcro straps to attach to the sides and a large magnet to hold the overlapping case in place. The large magnet was so strong that the screen was difficult to open, the pole kept falling, and the Velcro straps on the sides came loose. I gave them to Nextdoor. Second, some of the screens say they can be adjusted for different door sizes, but I'm not sure how that would work. Presumably you could cut off the velcro on the sides or top and then stick it back on the screen, but that would at least greatly increase the assembly effort. I would advise you to try and buy a screen that can be installed without such modifications. There are many different screen sizes, so it's best to choose one that fits. This raises the question of what size you should choose for your door. My doors were 80" x 34" and 79" x 33" where I wanted them to fit. The sill sloped down so the doors were nominally the same height, but I planned on installing one on the windowsill above the other. So there are two things to consider. The first is where you want to attach the Velcro and the second is the size of the screen. There is a 1 inch bezel at the top and sides of the screen. The Sentry screen then covers a 35 inch door opening and Magzo a 34 inch flat panel opening. If the door is 80 inches high, no screen will touch the bottom of the door due to the velcro at the top. I planned to adjust the screens so that the velcro tabs were facing each other and the screen was at right angles to the strips. It does not allow any width adjustment other than screen cropping. I ended up attaching velcro to the outside of the screen, which allowed me to adjust the width so the screen was flat. If you don't want to cut the screen or it's perfect for attaching the velcro to the inside of the frame, I would recommend mounting it to the outside so the screen and velcro are in the same plane. Last point. The pins that come with these doors will only work in a wooden box. My frame is metal so I bought some 3/4" black sheet metal screws to attach the top and sides. I only attached them to one of the doors - now I'll see how the velcro will hold on the other .When you do this, be careful not to wrap the screen around the drill bit and be sure to drill a hole almost the size of a screw as metal is much less forgiving than wood.I didn't have washers , but I would recommend using them as the holes in the screen edges may be larger than the screw head.
