On the recommendation of another reviewer I soaked a bag of water in hot soapy water the night before to get rid of the bad taste that other reviewers had. Test. However, after 24 hours of soaking in hot, soapy water, the taste of rubber, plastic, or chemicals was almost gone. I bought three and they all taste the same. I should have checked before we left for our day trip the morning after receiving it, but I didn't. The water was absolutely disgusting which made it undrinkable. Overall, the backpack was small but comfortable. He survived two 8-hour day trips. I would take another water bag and substitute. Otherwise, be prepared to soak it 3+ or longer to get rid of that taste.
