The person who designed the belt clip for this product was clearly a sadist. Putting it on a belt is relatively easy, but taking it off is a different matter entirely. There should be more thoughtful phone case clips. You have to be simple, because it doesn't get any more complex than that! SUGGESTED SOLUTION (If you want to bypass the concern): After looking at the problem for a while, I snapped the bent end of the clamp with a pair of pliers and filed the resulting jagged edge. It really worked!
