After 40 years I'm back to motorcycling. I thought if I ever spent money on any gear it would be a helmet. I did a lot of research and finally decided on this helmet. Shoei's reputation precedes it, so I know the product itself was already great. I ordered a medium and when I first put it on my head I thought my skull would collapse after my eyes popped out. I ordered a medium because I have a small head (and since the skull was throbbing, that also indicated a lack of brain), but I took a few breaths and the pulsing died down a bit. After about ten minutes I couldn't feel a single pressure point - and no, it wasn't because my head was numb. So a short break was announced. After several days of walking around the house with it for half an hour, infuriating my wife and scaring the cat, he felt quite comfortable. If I sent it back after the first fitting it would be a big mistake. It's still comfortable, but by no means uncomfortable. He grabs his jaw and pulls from side to side, not moving an inch, but not pinching either. A quick shake of the head, a nod like a headbanger, and the helmet doesn't move an inch. Not even a quarter of an inch. The helmet is light, about three and a half pounds (heavier than the RF 1200 I believe), and when I wear it it doesn't feel bulky in any way, and now it doesn't feel cramped. My first impulse was to send it back if I could ever take it off and order a large one. I'm glad I didn't. This would be a big mistake. Now I hope I never have to find out how well this works. But if it does, I'm sure I made the right choice.
