Review on πŸ”Œ 50ft USB 2.0 High Speed Active Extension/Repeater Cable by Your Cable Store by Julian Perkins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works for low power loads.

I used a cable to connect the Gearmo USB to the 4 port serial adapter that draws 0.135A. The total current is 0.245A, so the cable amplifier consumes 0.11A. The cable gets 4.97V from my computer. and it sends 4.45v to the Gearmo over 50ft of wire. The first 25 feet will tolerate a 0.245A drop 0.335 VR = 1.37 The second 25 feet will tolerate a 0.135A drop 0.185 VR = 1.37 Total voltage drop 0.52V, total R = 2.74 The load gets what is left after the drop of 2.74 ohms. If you have a load of 0.2A and a power supply of 5.0V, it turns out: 5.0 - 0.15 - 0.2 * 2.74 = 4.3V USB2.0 gives at least 4, 4V on, so 2A load is too much. The maximum current available is 0.164A with an ideal rating of 5.0. At my source 4.97V max 0.153A. YMMVBTW, all measurements were taken with a DROK USB 2.0 DMM, Ammeter, Voltmeter, Capacitance and Wattmeter, a 7 mode multifunction tester which I highly recommend. EDIT: These tests are about power only, so I also added some data tests by connecting the fastest USB drive. on my desk and compare the speed of a direct connection to the speed of a wired connection. My memory card read 25MB/s and write 5MB/s, about half of USB 2.0. I found the write speeds to be identical, but the read speeds dropped 1% when using the cable. A good thing!
