We bought one of these to use at the homeowners association gate. We use an IEI center with contactless cards (HID ProxCard II) to allow members 24/7 access to the facility. This switch should allow members to go out or receive guests without messing with their key cards. We placed the switch in a concrete block wall about 10 feet from the gate. After the initial install the switch worked fine, the slightest push activated the Request To Exit line on our IEI hub. But after 3 weeks (about 1000 clicks) it failed and was replaced under warranty. The replacement did exactly the same. IEI and JMAC refused a second warranty exchange. IEI refused to speak to us directly even though the instructions that came with it recommended calling them if there was a problem. The device was installed outdoors in Tucson, Arizona. The switch suffered from 110+F heat and hundreds of swim team kids with wet hands during the day and sprinklers at night. The exact cause of the failure was never determined, but I strongly suspect overheating. We replaced the switch with a simple $1 bell button from Home Depot and it seems to work fine.
