These brackets are not only suitable for fastening lamps. I use them to turn a popular private label roof basket into a carry-on for everything. As others have said, they're great for building fast fists. They are also great for attaching Thule ski racks, boards and poles. A testament to their strength is that I use 4 of these fasteners along the top rail of the basket to mount the ARB 2500's canopy. Note that in the photos I also drilled through the basket's steel side plate to attach the bottom edge of the Canopy to attach basket. I wouldn't trust these brackets alone to support the full weight of the awning, but with my current configuration I've had no issues at highway or off-road speeds. The only thing I would like to replace are the mounting bolts as the ones that come with the awning are a bit short when installed through these brackets and have no threads protruding beyond the nut. Overall these are quality mounts that fit and work as intended. Small update: I have ordered several of these clips in different sizes. This review says it's for 1" clamps, but the top tube uses .875" clamps. Down tube on my rack is 1 inch.
