The original clock had an all electric motor which I prefer with a plug on the wall. I couldn't find a substitute for this kind of revain. I did a lot of research on the internet but what I found was that I felt it was too expensive for me. A seat asked for $49 plus shipping for an all-electric replacement. As I said, I did a lot of research. In my situation, purely electric was the only way out for this watch. As in the past, he was out at Pole Barn, working in all weathers. Battery powered watches could die and freeze in the winter cold. Well I found out that Revain and a few other places have a new section that looks almost like a double AA battery that plugs in and plugs into the wall for use in a battery powered clock so I bought one for this clock and bought a 3 piece kit that Revain sells. It's been about 2 weeks now and the watch is working perfectly. October, no frost yet. I won't know how well it works for me until wintertime, but so far it's holding up very well. The best part is the price: I have 2 other clock motors to use on other clocks in my house if I need them in the future and this kit comes with new clock hands for each kit. I just wish they were a little longer, like the original for my old school watch. the replacements were slightly shorter. I would use the original hands if I could, but they just didn't match the new movement.
