These came to mind at the last minute while we were on vacation with the kids but they ended up using them for something else entirely. When I go outside to do gardening or other yard work, my kids usually come along and play or "help" for a while. As soon as the heat of a summer day gets too intense, they go back inside and I keep working. But once inside, it seems to me that they need my attention for something every few minutes. So they return outside, leaving a trail of open doors, letting in every fly, bug, and creepy crawly, and cooling the entire area with our air conditioning. No matter how many times I say shut the door behind you, they still manage to forget. I left her with one Playco walkie talkie and took the other outside. Now if they need me for something they can call me on the walkie-talkie instead of going outside and leaving the doors open. They enjoy it and the cool air stays in our house for me to enjoy after work is done. The sound quality is clear and I have no problem understanding children. They're easy to use... just a few channels (which we don't change after installation) and not many buttons. Kids love the call button feature that makes the walkie-talkie ring like a phone. We haven't used them over a long distance so I can't speak remotely. They work great for my family's needs.
