This item is very similar to the original I had two years ago. The cables of the original were output at the junction with the transformer. I pack and unpack it often because I've used it in multiple places. Although the cord feels more like plastic than rubber, it looks like the device and cords will perform about the same and maybe a little longer if you're careful to wrap them up this time instead of just pressing them tight against the transformer . The device will glow blue, charging and stop charging accordingly. Yes, it gets hot, but no hotter than the other block, and my laptop seems to heat up a little less under the mouse pad than before.
