Deviations in quality? for halogen lamps

I used to buy these lamps from Home Depot and found them quite acceptable. . In September 2018, for convenience and at a lower price, I ordered four from Revain. I have used 3-4 of these bulbs and at least 3 have already failed with moderate daily use. Before the lightbulbs completely failed, they would start to go out intermittently, sometimes turning off/on while sitting, sometimes not working for several days and then for several days. The problem arises from defective bases visible to the naked eye. Purchased lamps have a uniform flat base contact. At least a few Revain lightbulbs have a deformed, slanted base. The attached photo is the worst. The packaging looks original but may be a quality defect. Very disappointing. And disappointment. It took me a while to realize that the bulbs were the problem - having had luck with them in the past, my first guess was that I had a light fixture that was starting to fail. When the two lights behaved the same way, I realized it might have been a bad set of bulbs. Went to Home Depot today to have 3 of them replaced and all 3 new ones looked good and worked as expected. Lightbulbs are now on the list of things I won't buy online.

Pros
  • SOFT DIMMING. Dimmable Philips lamps are flicker-free, quiet and tested with more dimmer switches than any other lamp on the market. These PAR20 spotlights dim steplessly from 2900 Kelvin to a soft glow. Color Rendering Index (CRI): 100
