The system has a BUILT-IN 12GB FLASH DRIVE! There is NO hard drive installed, only 500GB models have a REMOVABLE hard drive. This required me to expedite another eBay order for mounting brackets. which luckily was before the PS3. BE WARNED! Also, it does what I want it to do only AFTER upgrading the hard drive. I think Sony may have removed and/or added some ports on the back of the system, but I'm not sure which ports, so do some research to see which model best suits your needs. There is a sliding hatch feature on the top through which discs are loaded into the system. I personally prefer this "load from top" method more than the previous "insert from front" method because I feel like there are fewer internal problems (drives get stuck in the system, drives don't mount anymore). captured" etc.) and if the top slider breaks I just stick it on to read the discs, which is easier to fix than buying a new PS3 or PS3 disc reader. I had a hard drive from my last PS3 that was still good so I went with this model because I liked the fact that it had a built in flash drive and it was the only model I could afford at the time . This flash drive is NOT used when installing a removable hard drive, so I have something to fall back on if my hard drive fails. However, a wiser purchase would be to spend a little more money on a hard drive model. the disc is already installed because it saves you additional purchases, and with Sony's constant system updates, 12GB isn't even enough to install Gran Turismo 5 from a physical copy (it's only 1 game!). However, since Sony has updated its software, anything that Playstation systems can now read external hard drives like Xbox (allowing you to skip the process of swapping hard drives altogether), but this also requires additional purchases, leaving the choice up to the buyer remains.
