This is difficult for me because I love Sennheiser as a company and they make great products. I bought them knowing some of the cons, thinking that they wouldn't make much of a difference and that I might not notice them, but after using them for a while there are just a few cons that I not see. Before I go any further I would like to say that this will be a review based on using them as everyday wireless headsets for your phone, which is what I think most people who shop in this segment are looking for. If listening to music and clean sound quality were the only things that mattered I would probably give these 5 stars as I feel they perform as well as you would expect from any bluetooth headphone - the limiting factor is the audio quality Bluetooth, not the headphones themselves. As a general use headset, however, I have three major drawbacks. The headphones REALLY had to be designed to retract. I was of course aware of this before I bought it, but it wasn't until I started wearing them every day and using them regularly that I really realized how annoying this omission was. can be in design. They usually wear them around my neck most of the day, but that doesn't mean I'm on the phone or listening to music all day. So when I'm not wearing them the headphones just hang loose and I know I've got this quite dainty but quite an expensive thing just waiting to be hooked and ripped off for something. While the alternative would be to take the strap off and keep it safe in Sennheiser's very good protective case, I have a feeling that's the case. kind of goes against the idea of a headset as it would actually cut me off from the benefits of receiving hands free calls. So it seems like I either use my regular headphones to listen to music (although my regular headphones are much more reliable) or my headphones hang from everything from my seatbelt to the straps of my backpack. So, that's one of the things I just underestimated, because Sennheiser really should do better next time. ----------2. The microphone needs some kind of noise cancellation. One reason to buy such a headset is the combined ability to hear sounds and make calls. With the average wired headset, you often find yourself moving part of the microphone closer to your mouth when making a call. The reason for this is pretty obvious - it significantly reduces the signal-to-noise ratio and makes your voice louder than the surrounding noise. However, the position of the microphone on the neckband means that the person on the other end of your call hears all of the audio without any ambient noise reduction technology - something that doesn't seem to exist. much of what is happening around you. While you can hear the other person well thanks to the great sound quality, this feature of the microphone means the other person may not hear you as well unless you need to raise your voice louder than usual. .------------------------------- 3. Bluetooth can be finnish. It's not bad for this headset (although I feel its performance in this regard isn't as good as some other headsets I've tried), but Bluetooth can be a finicky thing when it comes to connecting the device and phone is suddenly disconnected. I was actually out for a walk when the headset just disconnected and, despite best efforts, refused to reconnect to the phone. I'm not sure what was preventing it from pairing (overheating maybe?), but after a few hours it suddenly started working again with no issues. This hasn't been a constant problem for me so it was difficult to pinpoint the cause, but I just want to point out that when you buy these you suddenly find yourself in situations where they might not pair with your device for a long time. I suppose this is a risk to some degree with all wireless technologies, but as I mentioned above I've used other Bluetooth headphones and headsets that haven't suffered from the quirks I experienced with this particular one Headset have experienced. With that being said, I think take this last one with a grain of salt. ------------------ Now that we're done with the complaints, I'll touch on a few positive points. I find the controls on the neckband logical and easy to use. The battery life has been very good for me and I've never had a situation where I was even remotely drained. The sound quality is of course excellent. In my opinion the headset looks good. I swapped out the standard earbuds for Comply Foam earbuds simply because I find them more comfortable, but that's a personal preference and not a slap for the standard earbuds. There was a little insight to help you make an informed decision. To be honest, there doesn't seem to be a single standout device in this category that excels in every way. So for now, it all comes down to where you're willing to compromise. For me, despite the complaints I mentioned, sound quality is still paramount, so I will continue to use them and if I could go back and do it again I would still buy them.
