We've never had a pooch, but when we adopted Gracie, I had to bow. They are so stinky and cute. They are easier to put on than the elastic ones BUT they come off easier. She can wear rubber bands for a week or more. However, they hold up pretty well and are so cheap that I wouldn't worry if we lose one of them while walking. I will buy them again. Tip: I used clear silicone hair ties (made for people). Tiny. Only smaller than a cent in diameter. Silicone is said to break less hair than rubber bands. I make a small sticky braid in Gracie's hair and use a silicone hair tie to hold the ponytail in place. I placed it away from her head, about halfway between the base and the top of the pig's tail. I don't make it very tight. I then attach the pigtail clip BELOW the silicone hair ties. The loops stay on until I take them off (literally weeks). There is a bit of hair breakage from such a long strap but not as much as I've seen in a few days with dog bows attached to a small elastic.
