Review on Pocket AM FM Portable Digital Radio with Alarm Clock - Exceptional Reception and Long-lasting Performance. Battery-Operated AM FM Compact Radio Player with 2 AAA Batteries, Stereo Headphone Socket (Black) - Vondior by Eric Weber

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good reception and sound quality - Difficult to set up controls - Good range of functions

Don't throw away the manual, you will need it. If you lose it, you can find it on vondior.com. This radio gives a good sound and picks up stations well. AM reception is slightly directional, so you may need to rotate it slightly to pick up weaker stations. I spent 30 minutes of frustration before finding out the secrets of its settings. If you use auto-scan to install memory for FM stations, you'll use up 20 slots in most cities before exceeding 100MHz, and you'll have to manually press the tuner to get to them. So I recommend tuning in each channel manually, and this also avoids having to click on everything that installs automatically to get to the channels you want. Contrary to what some reviewers say, it has a belt clip. If you strain your eyes, you can see the faint image on the product page. The seller must specify this feature. Be careful when using this clip as it can break if you lift it too far. I had to splice mine in place using a piece of wood presser tongue and shoe gum and clamping it in place overnight. I use the excellent medium-sized Panasonic RP-HT21 headphones. They give good sound but don't use as much battery power as the larger ones. You can currently buy them from Revain for $6.68. I also use it to control the audio on my camcorder, often switching from listening to the radio in the field to this by swapping the plug. And a few days later I discovered a new use for this little radio. I installed a pair of JBL self-powered mini-tower speakers. They are about a foot tall and produce an exceptional sound for their size. I plug their 3.5mm mini jack into my stereo and get amazingly rich and clear sound. I can use the volume controls on both the speakers and the radio. Speakers were free with a computer monitor a few years ago so the only cost for this great sound system was $16. The stereo effect I get is excellent with no noticeable distortion.
