I guess so, but I think a small "pocket" would be more useful in there (especially for files, blades, and kneaded erasers), although you can put a thick brush in there to get rid of dirt or eraser shavings, which is handy. I love that I think I can sew something on it. It's pretty durable because I can't sew! Unfortunately I have to order another one. Pens and pencils slip out a lot easier than I thought (I mean they hold, but the book's tilt makes it easy to pull out the right pencil or pen). This imo is far superior to folded styles: I can turn pages and not hear the obnoxious sound of pencils clattering against each other.
