My gelding washes all the standard plastic mesh fly masks but he wears this one until it falls off. out or in dirt, feces, dirt, urine hole etc. He never makes holes in the mesh around his eyes which means flies stay outside and crawl into the mask, biting/drinking from his eyes and making them itchy and crying. I have found that it is better for my gelding to go for a thoroughbred arabian size instead of the standard colour. Too loose a size allows flies to easily penetrate and go to town where the horse cannot get rid of them. He tends to rip/tear the mask when rubbing his cheeks/jaws against the fence. I wish there was solid webbing everywhere except in the horse's line of sight. If I catch a small tear, I tape it up inside and out with tape and tape it back on.
