Review on πŸ”Š Yamaha NS-IW280CWH In-Ceiling Speaker System - 6.5" 3-Way, White (Pair) by Carolyn Lawson

Powerful sound from these little gems

Just installed this in my new kitchen. When I first received it I was a bit shocked at the size. I ordered 4 speakers (2 boxes of 2) but realized 4 would be too much for our small kitchen/dining room. They were easy to install. I followed the 9 7/16" template that was in the box , and cut a hole in the ceiling. I tinned (soldered) the speaker wire leads since they are attached to spring-loaded clips. Also, according to the manual, I put glass wool in the cavity around the speaker since it was one floor up. After connecting the wires, I slid the speaker into place and tightened the four mounting clips, but not too tight so as not to damage the filaments. The 6.5-inch speakers are mounted at an angle in the chassis, allowing you to aim them instead of just pointing straight down. The two tweeters are mounted across the front panel and can also be routed individually. Very chic design from Yamaha. They sound great and reproduce the full range with a little bass boost from my stereo amp. Two speakers are more than enough for my 300 sqm. ft. They're rated for 100 watts, but don't bother buying such a large amp if you're partially deaf or plan to become partially deaf. Guess I'll have to install two others in my office or bedroom!

Pros
  • 3/4" dual dome tweeter with SoundMax technology
Cons
  • Concerns me
