Review on Sengled Required SmartThings Control: The Ultimate Smart Home Lighting Solution by Jennifer Mounce

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good for a budget smart home.

I have a Hubitate Elevate that I've been playing with for about a month and have a combo of Philips Hue RGBW and white lights but they are expensive. I had tried Yeelight bulbs before but didn't really like their response time and for some reason they stopped responding after a day or two and had to be reset. Anyway, I bought a set of six Sengled RGBW bulbs and they were great! The full white spectrum of the lamps is great, but the brightness of the colors could be better. I felt it was a good compromise compared to filling the whole house with Philips Hue lights. Damn, they are so expensive! I liked them so much that I bought two more packs of six for a total of eighteen and about halfway through the installation I encountered my first problem. The tenth bulb I unpacked looked great; It connected to my hub and responded to commands, so I installed a second lightbulb on that device. Again no problem. until I tried to connect the light to Google Home. Google Home added a lightbulb to this light. but only one of them is the second. I found it strange. I spent two hours resetting the first one and adding it back to my hub to test the commands on the two bulbs individually and then together. Everything was fine until I added the device back to Google Home. just a lightbulb. I thought maybe I hit a cap or something. I already had 10 Philips Hue bulbs in the Google house. it turned out not to be the case as I switched to a different lamp. This only required one lightbulb, I added a Sengled lightbulb. everything was ok - including a few to google home! I figured what's going on here, go back to the other light - reset both bulbs and again just the second one on this light connected to Google Home. After a few DAYS of troubleshooting I found 14/18 bulbs that worked perfectly in both Hubitate Elevate and Google Home. The other four only connect to Hubitat Elevate. I thought I had a bad batch but I didn't really keep track of which bulbs came with which pack so I don't know. I'm done for now. Anyway, I don't think 14/18 is that great when it comes to quality control. I'm not sure if I should return them all and upgrade to Lifx bulbs (but damn they're even more expensive) or stick with Philips Hue. I'm not sure it's worth the extra time playing around with lower brands, but I think you get what you pay for when it comes to smart luxury.
