These are essential when laying marble or other soft natural stone with the Spin Doctor Leveling System. We placed the first section of tile under the Spin Doctor caps without using these screens and found permanent round marks where the caps rubbed against the tile when tightened. A more experienced tiler would probably (hopefully) know better, but we as beginners didn't. Suffice it to say that on the NEXT section of tile we laid, we used these shields to avoid the problem. My only complaint is that they *should* be included in the overall system and not sold as a separate add-on product. But hey, we all have to make money I guess.
