I purchased this system to replace a proprietary system that was installed by a previous homeowner and was unused for several years. After a little google searching for the model number, it became clear that the old unit was from Honeywell. I was interested in self-regulation and didn't want to sign an expensive multi-year contract to reactivate the old system. Vista has established itself as platform neutral. Physically, I could reuse existing Honeywell wiring and wireless sensors, but had to replace the speaker, keyboard, and wireless receiver. I paired this with a 6162 keypad, a WAVE 2 siren and a 5881 wireless receiver. If I could do it again I would probably choose the 6162rf keypad as it has a built in RF receiver and all my sensors relatively close together are the device. As for the wiring, you should be comfortable stripping wires and using screw terminals, and new installations have the problem of having to run wires through the wall for power, keypad and siren - everything else can be wireless if you wish. You need a keyboard that supports Vista Smart Programming, e.g. B. one of the keyboards of the 616X series. The control box I received had firmware v10.x, so I was configured to require version 9.18 or later to use menu programming. Consistent with other comments, the programming menu is more installer oriented and requires navigating through multiple menus, but I was able to complete the basic programming and turn on 5 wired and wireless zones in one day following online tutorials and YouTube videos. There are some great YouTube videos covering basically everything from getting started to setting up and naming multiple zones. adventure helped. The system has worked great so far and I've added Envisalink 3 for web monitoring and control which I was able to get up and running in about 30 minutes. The end result is that I have a system with lots of bandwidth. for growth that does everything I need - I'm very happy with this system. Day-to-day operations are very fluid, with the full-text display again helping (as you can name zones and receive notifications of problems). Additional Features (Web Monitoring/Management and Text/Electronics) Well, as the number of wireless or "home automation" oriented systems increases, I like the idea of having a reliable, offline, reliable system like this more . like 20p for security, with home automation on their own platform while there are still a few convergence standards. Next steps include adding a garage door sensor and possibly wireless smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. I will eventually consider add-ons Honeywell Connect and/or Tuxedo Touch in constant evolution.
