As with any training, a delayed reaction only convinces the dog that you are an idiot yelling in an incomprehensible language, and I daresay that is not your goal. Any delay, even two seconds, can decouple the behavior from your response. 3) Be short and clear. One second is enough, two is too much. This is a puzzle for a dog; keep wondering. With that in mind, keep it as invisible as possible. Finally, when the whining trigger kicks off and your dog is silent, words of encouragement are very important - for both of you.
