Review on πŸ”₯ Inkbird ISV-100W WIFI Sous Vide Precision Cooker - 1000 Watts Immersion Circulator Machine with Thermal Immersion Sous Vide Recipes & APP (American Standard) by Rhonda Johnson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The first is back. The second seems normal

Availability Across all of the Revain reviews, there are several people who have posted information about an issue with an insecure control panel (touchpad). The first block I got had this problem too. No matter how many times I pushed it in, the bottom of the panel rose again. even in an upright working position. I almost applied a tiny bead of glue just to hold the record in place, but changed my mind. Sending the defective unit back to Revain via the initial return process seemed like the best option AND I wanted to see if the issue surfaced with the exchange. Inkbird relies on thin metal springs that are connected to the underside of the touchpad. constantly pulling and holding on the bottom. When these springs are released from the bottom of the plate, as they were on the first unit I received, there is nothing holding them back. Small protrusions on the top and bottom edges of the touchpad that would fit into small notches on the top and bottom of the surrounding bezel would likely prevent this from happening to anyone. For something that appears to be well designed, springs alone don't seem like a very good way to keep the panel secure. In any case, to complete this part of the review, I initiated the Revain Prime return process. and got a replacement. So far the replacement seems to be without this problem, but now I can't help but be very careful with this new one so that this problem doesn't happen later. Let's move on to the rest of the review. FEATURES.SIZE. Overall I'd say the thing is pretty big. definitely NOT something that fits in a utensil drawer. Not critical, but less would be better. When buying a sous vide water container with a lid, consider the diameter of the hole in the lid and the diameter of the Inkbird. For your information. This is the one I use with Inkbird and I really like it. very sure. I don't use a sous vide cooler for my food so not being able to remove or adjust it doesn't affect it, but some may need this feature. Electrical Wire - 4 feet is a good length. keeps the water bath away from the edge of the counter. The wire is very durable but adds to the overall bulkiness of the device. WIFI SETUP - It was pretty easy and all I can say is FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! This only works with 2.4GHz WiFi, not 5G. I have a Verizon WiFi device that runs both 2.4GHz and 5G WiFi simultaneously for backwards compatibility with older WiFi devices, so I didn't have any connection issues. What I did to make sure the connection process was easy was make sure my phone was on 2.4GHz WiFi before I started. After that I reset my phone to the normal Wi-Fi settings. IMHO. Bluetooth would be the best connection option. USE OF THE APP. I'm probably one of the few who will write something positive about the application. i really like it You can set the temperature or time manually, use one of the pre-installed "recipes", edit the pre-installed "recipes" and make them your own, or enter your own recipes from scratch. I've already taken a "recipe" called TENDER STEAK and turned it into my own recipe called TENDERING with accurate temperature and time for easy memorization. The app also has a PLAY/PAUSE button. and easy access controls to change time and temperature. Using the APP to control Inkbird is impressively quick, with very little lag between pressing a control on my phone and seeing it on the Inkbird display. Also, it's really VERY nice not to get up from the TV to check what's going on with the device (just check the app). The only thing the app doesn't do well is tell you when Inkbird has finished its cooking program. The notification on the phone about the end of the cooking program sometimes works fine, sometimes it takes more than 10-15 minutes. My final annoyance with the app is that it's not just a sous vide app. This is for connecting ALL Inkbird devices. I think there should be a dedicated app just for sous vide. MANUAL COOKING AND VIEWING - It's very simple, but you just have to press the buttons a lot from start to finish to start the program. The display is really nice, bright and very easy to read. The only downside to the display is that the buttons are VERY sensitive. I stopped the device a few times unintentionally. Overall, I find the app to be the better of the two device management options, but it's nice to know that the control panel is there in case the app or WiFi fails. HEATING - I always use hot tap water when setting up. Inkbird in the sous vide process. The temp gauge on the Inkbird reads the tap water temp at 112 degrees, so that's the starting temp I use to keep track of time. I cook filet mignon medium rare at 132 degrees for an hour, and going from 112 degrees to 132 degrees takes about 5-8 minutes. The chicken is cooked to 165 degrees and from 112 to 165 takes about 15 to 18 minutes. So around 3+ degrees per minute is the heating rate I'm currently experiencing and I think it's pretty good. NOISE WHILE OPERATING - To be honest there is nothing worth mentioning. The only way you'll hear it is if you approach it, and when you do, you'll hear a slight buzzing. MIX WATER AND MAINTAIN THE TEMPERATURE - The water is definitely moving in the container, albeit very gently. The agitator could move the water better, but that would likely come at the expense of operational noise. Because the movement of the water inside the tank is very important to maintain a constant temperature throughout the tank, the softness of the Inkbird circulator needs to be balanced. To achieve this, it is also necessary to think about installing a water bath, which includes measures of insulation against heat loss and preventing water evaporation. Here are some of the things I'm doing to fix this problem. *** The cooking container I use has a capacity of 12 liters. I don't think I would recommend using more than 16 liters unless a second unit was included in the installation. *** My container also has an insulating neoprene sleeve surrounding the whole thing and a lid to prevent heat loss and water evaporation. *** I also make sure that there is enough space around the grocery bag or bags that are in the bin so that they don't block the running water (I always use a trivet). TEMPERATURE ACCURACY - This can only be guessed at. I mean, I'm guessing the temp is correct because I don't have a calibrated thermometer to check. One thing I noticed is that the Inkbird keeps beeping READY for use when heating water, a degree below what was set to boil. I have no idea why he's doing this. The only thing I can say about the temperature is that the food comes out perfectly cooked. RESULTS So far I'm very happy with the results. I've cooked whole pork tenderloin on medium in an hour, 1 1/2 inch beef tenderloin steaks in an hour on medium, and chicken thighs (with thighs) in five hours. $100 One of the few sous vide machines under $100 that offers a connected APP. Easy WiFi setup with consistently good results SKIP. Design issue causing some devices to have loose touchpads. Some people may have Wi-Fi setup and/or compatibility issues. (Bluetooth may have been the best choice for universal connectivity) App works well but has yet to work, especially for notifications App should be a dedicated sous vide app, not generic to other devices Sensitive panel buttons can be unintentionally activated Too large size limits the save options on Non-adjustable or Removable clip may pose a problem for some. Gentle water circulation does not really match the heat output and can therefore limit the size of the cooking container used. Overall, I would give this device a solid three stars. Good choice for $$$ but not great. not yet. The control panel issue I mentioned. it is not safe, needs to be solved as soon as possible. The other things I mentioned are relatively minor in comparison, but still need improvement.
