I just threw away my second glowing bowl. So I figured if they don't last more than six months then why pay twice as much for a well known brand when I can pay for two generics! So, here's the scoop. Like the Glow Bowl, they use three AAA batteries. They usually last 2-3 weeks. UPDATE: I've had the same batteries in this one since I got it about 3-4 months ago, so for some reason the batteries are lasting longer than my light up shell. This is much smaller but gives off the same amount of light. However, I can't turn them off from color changing mode (we bought two packs). I prefer to set it to a nice blue color and leave it there. Instead, it turns red and slowly changes to other colors. That's why I downgraded it to four stars. Otherwise I love it. We rely heavily on them for security at night. We are both in our 50's and I personally get up 2-3 times a night to go. My mother just fell while walking at night, hit her head and ended up in the hospital. I just wonder if one of them would have saved her from falling. I will update my review and let you know how long they last. ANOTHER UPDATE: I just figured out how to decide on my chosen color so I've upped my rating to five stars. . While the color isn't as vibrant as the Glo Bowl, the batteries don't need to be changed nearly as often and have lasted longer without dying on me. I will not hesitate to order them again in the future. The PHOTO shows the light bowl on the left and this smaller universal bowl on the right. I like the smaller size.
