I have an HP Z600 computer. I had to update the BIOS for the Samsung Magician software to recognize the new drive. But I still couldn't see it in Windows Explorer because it wasn't formatted. It took a while to find the fix: In Windows 10, open Windows Explorer, click THIS PC in the left column, then click MANAGE in the top menu. A new window called "Computer Management" will open. Click DISK MANAGEMENT in the left column. There should be a new hard drive there. Because it hasn't been formatted yet, it won't show up in Windows Explorer yet. The new drive should show "Unallocated". In the menu below, right-click on the new disk. Select NEW SIMPLE VOLUME. A new window titled "Welcome to the New Simple Volume Wizard". Click "Next. Do not change the default disk size or disk space shown, click "NEXT". In the next window, you can assign a drive letter. Click "Next. In the next window you can assign a volume label (disk name). I named my 1TB SSD. Click "Next. A new window will show you what should happen, click FINISH. After a few seconds, the formatting of the new drive will be complete. Open Windows Explorer, your new drive should appear. You can now Samsung Data will launch migration software when you replace your main drive. This will detect the original drive and the new SSD drive. If you need to select another drive to copy, you can easily do so from the menu. When you are ready, start the transfer. It took about 20 minutes. Then it suggested that I shut down the computer, erase C drive and put the SSD in its place. After that I booted up the machine and it started like nothing changed. The speed improved and all my programs are working. I have saved the old drive as an archive in case that one fails. I hope these details will be Save you some frustrating hours of work with a new drive. It was definitely not a plug and play operation, but it was worth it in the end. There is a star deduction for the complexity of the installation.
