which I would like to admit, it often seems that there are coffee grounds in the backup. We tried to help the environment by using a reusable filter and I don't think we did a very good job of making sure we removed enough dirt before rinsing it out. Since we can just put them in the compost bin and not use water (and sometimes paper towel) to clean the reusable filter, I don't think using them will have the worst impact on the environment. We haven't had any holes or other issues with these filters. They're thin, but that's why they break down more easily when composted. It's also much easier to toss the entire filter in the compost along with the used soil. The side with the seal needs to be folded over to lay flat. I skipped the pre-wetting and didn't notice any ill effects.
