Review on πŸ” Happy Hydro LED Loupe: 30x & 60x Magnifying Lens - Battery Powered with Carrying Case by Peter Cruz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very useful magnifier but the overall design needs improvement

I bought this magnifier because it was advertised as being made of optical glass, a big plus compared to the softer ones Acrylic lens stamping others . I'm also pleased with the bright LED performance. Once you've used a lighted magnifying glass, it's very difficult to use it again without a light source. In some cases I use the 60x lens especially to identify insects down to species. I have some design issues. The bag is quite bulky and not very convenient to carry in the pocket. The case makes the magnifying glass look more like a museum piece than an instrument for long-term use. If the case is designed to stand on a table and the magnifying glass will only be taken out occasionally, that's fine. But in the field, a leather or denim case that conforms to the contours of the magnifier is probably the best alternative for easy portability. Since I'll be using it for the latter, I'll ditch the case and look for a replacement. The key is an easy-to-lose item. Maybe make a slit in the battery cover so you can pop it open with a small coin or screwdriver and get rid of the key altogether. I can end up sticking the key on the inside lid of the magnifier itself. Both problems are minor in my opinion. My only major issue with the design is that the connection that allows the magnifying glass to rotate for viewing is held together with screws! I've used enough illuminated lenses to know that with regular use these screws will eventually loosen and fall out at the worst possible moment. A one-piece rivet connection had to be used to prevent a one-piece object from becoming a two-piece composite. A drop of cyanoacrylic glue on each of the screws helps, but given the cost of the magnifying glass, that measure isn't worth it. The presence of screws gave it a 4 star rating instead of 5. Overall, despite my issues, this is a very useful lens.
