Rating size L: I have calves that people call the works of Michelangelo. My tailor once asked me while I was pinching my pants if my 18 inch calves were swollen. So naturally I was concerned that these knee pads would cut off the precious blood supply to my calves in the quest for safety. I really struggled with the sleeves. on my calves, and at first the upper sleeve felt like it was suffocating my thighs. After some adjustments they are definitely tight but not painful so I want to take them off. The padding hugs the knee quite well and isn't too stiff to allow flexibility when pedaling. They don't feel heavy at all and don't shift when you walk. Haven't worn them on the trails yet but I'm very confident they will protect my knee from bumps and cuts.
