I think we have a defective model or something. I read all the reviews and bought it for my husband but he just didn't like it! So I tried it and I feel the same way! I like the cap but it seems that when the cup is more than half full the pressure builds up from the heat and when I open it it squirts out. It is heavy and uncomfortable to carry, and the top is also difficult to clean. Also, it keeps the coffee too hot. I don't travel for work and with two kids I need to wake up as soon as possible so this didn't work for me. He said he was still too hot after two hours - effective, but not exactly practical for a cup of coffee. I bought him a plain mug with a picture of Shutterfly on it and he likes it better. Again, I know this is one of the best, just not for us!
