This is my first hammer drill and the build quality and feel of the drill makes me think this will be the only hammer drill I will ever need to buy. I have several Makita tools from cordless drills and grinders and this drill fits again. I used it for a few days to fix a porch that the carpenter bees had completely destroyed. I drilled some 1/2" holes in the block and three 7" deep 5/8" holes in the cast concrete to attach the 6x6 stud brackets to the porch stud posts. All of this was drilled with no problems. Drilled 5/8" holes with gears in the low position as recommended in the owner's manual. By the way, the two-speed gearbox is in a metal housing and, in my opinion, is worth the money. Overall an excellent drill. If I had to do it again I would buy this drill again.
