Close, but not quite: a high fence. narrow gate.

A few years ago I bought a wood/metal version of this gate from Summerwind and it worked great on my elderly dog until she died. Last year, however, a newly adopted dog chewed through a wooden railing when he was home alone for the first time since he was adopted. Now that we are coming out of quarantine due to COVID-19 and I expect to be hosting guests again at my home this year, it is time to replace what remains of the old gate. Unfortunately, I forgot to point out when I bought it that, like most child and pet fences, the gate itself is relatively narrow. So the benefit is that my dog can't chew through this solid metal fence and the height is more suitable (higher than before). However, this model does not work for my use and separates the front door from the rest of the house. The gate is too narrow to install permanently next to my front door. Instead of the push assembly of the old wooden/metal doors, this model uses a different assembly method. This made assembly and installation difficult (my wife spent an hour assembling/installing before I realized it wasn't suitable for our needs). From the looks of it, this fence will be more secure than the first one we bought from Summerwind in 2017; However, after realizing that the actual part of the gate is not wide enough for visitors to our home, I will be returning it. In general, I observe that child and animal fences tend to only let children and small pets through. through the gates themselves. Since many of these fences share the same design issue, I now remember why I bought the previous model. At the time it was the only option that covered the distance I needed and also offered a wider opening. Since I can't find anything that is both tall and wide for my particular application, I have to risk my dog destroying a replacement of the same model for an old fence.
