A few years ago I bought a wood/metal version of this gate from Summerwind and it worked great on my elderly dog until she died. Last year, however, a newly adopted dog chewed through a wooden railing when he was home alone for the first time since he was adopted. UPDATED FOR BOARDS QUESTION: Technically yes you can install this with a baseboard but be careful. The bottom bracket is approximately 3 inches high and requires a flat surface to mount. (See Quarter Round in addition to your skirting board) You can install it on top of the skirting board. In my photo my base isn't high enough to provide a completely flat mounting surface AND I have a quarter round there that also needs to either be trimmed so the bracket is flush with the ground or you need to
