Keeps the heat out. The lady who ironed for us burned three expensive pairs of trousers before we bought these. Now she uses it and nothing has burned since. She was so embarrassed by the burns that she almost quit her job before confessing what she had done, and we found a very simple fix. Well, life would be good for everyone. However, I must say that it is a pity that today so many things need ironing, and a few years ago this was not necessary. Why materials have become cheaper in quality. I am sorry. I know it wasn't exactly the place to talk.
