I bought both this keyboard case and a Kensington Keyfolio Pro 2 to use with my iPad 3/new iPad and its Photive case. Technically, this Logitech keyboard, like the Photive case, is made specifically for the iPad 2, but I've read other reviews that say it works great with the new iPad. First Impression: This is a keyboard, not a case. Perhaps because it was made for the iPad 2, the new iPad doesn't fit snugly and loosely on the aluminum corners; and with the Photive case attached (which basically resembles the Apple Smart Case + back shell), forget about it. But even if I had an iPad 2, I certainly wouldn't want to carry this assembly far, let alone place it on a rough surface - the back would definitely scratch. Second impression: I can still use my Photive. the Logitech case as I take it halfway and fold the back. A minor annoyance, yes, but not a deal breaker. In fact, I feel much better without removing the case because after a few minutes of use with a bare iPad, it slipped out of the keyboard groove and crashed onto the table. It was a moment that I will hopefully one day forget. However, if you plan on doing a lot of typing/typing on the touchscreen at the same time, I should be warned upfront that the keyboard will hold the iPad tightly, but not THAT tightly. Third impression: The screen angle on this keyboard is much more comfortable and intuitive than the Kensington and most other folio cases I've seen. While it's not adjustable, it also doesn't force you to look almost perpendicular at the iPad screen, which is a real plus and mimics only the best parts of laptop typing, especially up close. I haven't tried it in portrait mode because that would require removing the case completely, but I suppose it would be similar. Fourth impression: The Bluetooth connection isn't as smooth as the Kensington and the keys don't feel quite as crisp. The delete/enter key turns out to be quite small, but doesn't bother us. Overall, typing isn't exactly "pleasant," but it's light years better than using the onscreen keyboard. So far we haven't had any issues with disconnects while typing, although as it fell asleep for the night (it needs rest too) I turned the iPad on this morning and had to go through the whole connection procedure again. However, I suspect that this applies to almost all Bluetooth keyboards. Final impression: One thing you should know if you're buying an iPad keyboard for the first time and doing a SIGNIFICANT amount of CONTINUOUS typing (i.e. you're a writer or student) as well as editing is the touchscreen - Terrible mouse replacement. If you find yourself again changing sentencesโor, God forbid, adding punctuation marksโor skipping between paragraphs, you might seriously consider buying a netbook. Sure, it might not look as good, but the trackpad makes all the difference. However, if you use the iPad as a writing device and not as a writing solution, you will mainly use it for writing emails. , minutes of meetings and much more, then this keyboard might be just what you need. Typing on a blank screen can, as many have said, make you more productive and less distracting (although if you're suffering from this problem I'd suggest you try Scrivener for Mac first - it's a lot cheaper too). On the other hand, after typing on this keyboard for 30 minutes last night, I have to say that I am definitely considering returning it. Maybe it's because the keyboard is so sunk under the aluminum trim, but your hands were cramped and strained, your eyes were tired from having to strain closer (I know you can increase the font size, but at the cost of being able to seeing everything you're trying to say), and the constant pranks I made with the touchscreen all resulted in me turning it off and reaching for my laptop. This is probably a feature of all iPad keyboards: they take some getting used to and the typing experience on the iPad is not exactly "inspiring". So I think I'll try for a few more days and then decide if I'm too hard. I hope this has helped you in your own purchasing decision!
