According to Sigma, d-Maltose Monohydrate should be clear, colorless in 1M H2O and readily soluble in water. The bottle I received was without a security seal and contained a light yellow substance with a strong odor, slightly soluble in water, similar to starch. 9 grams in 100 ml of the solution made the water dark brown and very cloudy, like sewage. I would check optical rotation as long as light passes through it. I have no idea what it is but I am sending it back.
