Full, loud, rich but distorted and noisy. which made me switch back and forth. These Yamahas were much louder and fuller at any volume. But in the end the distorted, static sound of them drove me crazy and I had to give them back. Note that I don't listen to them at very high volume, I'd noticed it at any volume. I mean, the Yamaha is "fuller" than the Bose, so I felt like I could hear everything in a punchy, full sound. , a Yamaha baffle (including noise insulation). I think Bose can roll off some frequencies to enhance the clean, clear sound. But when I'm not listening to them in a row, the Bose sound good (although not very loud). If you listen to them (Yamaha) on their own they sound old school distortion. It's like they're trying to design them to give you the most bang for your buck. They certainly succeeded. I prefer it quiet, even with a slightly different response curve (like Bose), than noticeable hissing (like Yamaha). I'm giving it two stars because I really couldn't take it.
